Consulting and speaking

I work with health systems, government agencies, community organizations, and technology companies. I bring a breadth of experience to this work, including over a decade of clinical practice in chronic pain, behavioral health, and integrated care settings, and expertise on clinical applications of AI. I am also trained in a range of research methodologies, including computational and quantitative methods, qualitative interviews and user-centered design, and intervention research.

My areas are behavioral health applications of AI, psychosocial treatments for chronic pain, and the use of data science and other research methods to improve practice.

Advising

For organizations deciding how to use AI, adopting a digital intervention, or changing how care is delivered. I can help teams decide where new strategies fit and where they do not, develop practical guidance for staff on using AI in their work, and advise on the clinical content of digital interventions so that they reflect the best available evidence and practice realities. I have advised technology founders on behavioral health products, and my work on patients’ use of AI has informed the American Psychological Association’s guidance for practitioners.

Evaluation and research partnerships

For leaders and practice owners who need to know whether a program, a tool, or a change in practice is working, and whether it has unintended consequences. I can design evaluations that ask rigorous questions from multiple methodological perspectives and draw on diverse data including surveys, interviews, outcome measures, and routinely collected program data.

Training and curriculum

For organizations, clinicians, and staff. I can develop and deliver workshops, multi-session trainings, and curricula, and train clinicians on topics such as the use of AI and how to target co-occurring problems with evidence-based approaches. I teach topics ranging from clinical practice to data analysis, and I direct NYU Silver’s post-master’s certificate program in Artificial Intelligence in Social Work and Mental Health. I have trained clinicians across a large behavioral health network on the use of AI, and I have presented to technology and government audiences, including Google’s AI for Good team and a New York State panel.

Formats include seminars, panels, keynotes, grand rounds, workshops, and multi-session trainings, in person or online. Recent topics include:

  • AI literacy and responsible use of AI in behavioral health
  • Talking with clients about their use of AI
  • Psychosocial approaches for addressing chronic pain
  • Evaluation methods for clinical teams
  • AI and mental health for young people
